If you're wondering why I covered that game, check it out after this one to find out why that game was so important that it got chosen. As for this newest blog, I'll be covering the matchup between USC and UCLA that took place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion there in Los Angeles, California. Now let's get into the game between the cross-town rivals. Going into the game, UCLA was 8-2 coming off one loss followed by one win, both to Oklahoma, while USC was 6-4 coming off of 5 consecutive wins. This is also UCLA's first home game of the season so let's see how their home games start out shall we. Now it's time to see how the game between the two famous cross-town rivals went.
The first set ended at 25-23 with UCLA taking that set. The second set ended at 25-20 with USC taking that set. The third set ended at 25-23 with UCLA taking that set and being only one set away from victory. The fourth set ended at 25-17 with USC taking that set and causing a fifth set to happen and be the tie breaker. The fifth set ended at 17-15 with USC taking that set and the game beating UCLA 3 sets to 2 at UCLA's own Pauley Pavilion. That puts UCLA at 8-3 for the season while USC is sitting at 6 straight wins and a record of 7-4 for the 2023 season.
Now let's see who some of the top players were during this match up. The leader in Kills goes to USC's London Wijay, with 23, and Skylar Fields, with 18, while the leaders for UCLA are Iman Ndiaye, with 16, and Desiree Becker, with 12. The leader in Aces goes to USC's Emily Fitzner, with 3, and London Wijay, with 2, while the leaders for UCLA are Peyton Dueck and Ashley Mullen, each with 2. The leader in Blocks goes to UCLA's Anna Dodson and Desiree Becker, each with 7, while Lindsey Miller led USC with 5. The leader in Assists goes to USC's Emily Fitzner with an impressive 46 while Ashley Mullen led UCLA with 31 assists of her own. The leader in Digs goes to UCLA's Peyton Dueck with 16 while Gala Trubint led USC with 13 digs of her own.
That concludes the matchup between cross-town rivals UCLA and USC. These two will play each other again on November 24th at USC's Galen Center for those who love watching them play each other. USC's next game is on Friday, September 29th at 7pm Pacific Time as they play against Utah at USC's Galen Center meanwhile UCLA's next game is Friday, September 29th at 7pm Pacific Time as they play against Colorado at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.
