Wisconsin @ Nebraska 10-21-2023 WVB
Dear Readers~
Welcome back to another blog! If you missed my previous blog covering the game between Stanford and USC, don't forget to check it out after this one. This is a big game because these two are the only teams left that are undefeated this season. They both have a record of 18-0 going into the game. Wisconsin is currently ranked #1 and Nebraska is currently ranked #2. This game took place at 7pm on Saturday, October 21st at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Now let's get into the game to see who can stay undefeated and who will have their first loss of the season.
Let's start off with the stats. The leader in Kills goes to Nebraska's Merritt Beason, with 21, while Sarah Franklin led Wisconsin with 17. Only 3 players had Aces and they each had one ace. Those players were Bergen Reilly, Kennedi Orr, and Merritt Beason, all of Nebraska, meaning no one from Wisconsin had any aces during the game. Wisconsin makes up for it in Blocks though. They're top 3 blockers were Carter Booth and Caroline Crawford, each with 9, and Anna Smrek, with 6, while Nebraska's top blockers were Andi Jackson, with 4, Berger Reilly, with 3, and Ally Batenhorst and Merritt Beason, each with 2. The leader in assists was easily Nebraska's Bergen Reilly, with 50, while Izzy Ashburn led Wisconsin with 25. The leader in Digs goes to Wisconsin's Julia Orzol, with 18, while Nebraska's top 3 weren't far behind. Nebraska's top 3 were Bergen Reilly and Lexi Rodriguez with 17 digs each and also Harper Murray, with 15 digs of her own.
Now it's time for the scores of each set. The first set ended at 25-22 in favor of Nebraska. The second set ended at 25-17 in favor of Wisconsin and had the biggest gap between the two teams. The third set ended at 25-20 in favor of Wisconsin yet again and puts them just one set away from winning. The fourth set ended at 26-24 in favor of Nebraska and causing a fifth set to break the tie. The fifth set ended at 15-13 in favor of Nebraska and gave them the win of 3 sets to Wisconsin's 2. This game brings Nebraska's record for the season to 19-0 while Wisconsin's record for the season becomes 18-1.
That concludes the game between the two formerly undefeated teams. The next time these two will play each other will be at 3pm on Friday, November 24th at the UW Field House in Madison. No need to wait until then because Wisconsin plays their next game on Friday, October 27th at 6pm as they travel to Lansing, Michigan to play Michigan State while Nebraska's next game is also on Friday, October 27th but at 7pm as they host Maryland. As always, if there's a team or sport you'd like covered, don't forget to put it in the comments below. Until next time, Miller out
