#5 Stanford @ # 15 Arizona State 10-29-2023 WVB

 Dear Readers~

This blog covers the game between Stanford and Arizona State, or ASU as some may know it, that took place in Tempe, Arizona at Arizona State's Mullett Arena on October 29th. Going into the game Stanford was 18-2 coming off of 12 consecutive wins, one of which was a 3-0 win over Arizona State, while Arizona State was 20-3 coming off of a win against UC Berkeley just a few days prior in Tempe. Will Stanford get 13 wins in a row and make it a record of 19-2, as well as a 13-0 away record, or will Arizona State win their 21st game and move their at home record from 5-0 to 6-0? Let's find out.

Starting off with the game leaders in Kills we go to Arizona State's Marta Levinska, with 17, while Stanford was led by Caitie Baird, with 12. The leader in Aces goes to Arizona State's Claire Jeter with 3. Arizona State's Geli Cyr as well as Stanford's Kendall Kipp had 2 aces each. The previously mentioned Kendall Kipp along with fellow teammate McKenna Vicini led in blocks with 5 each while Claire Jeter and Maddie McLaughlin led Arizona State with 3 blocks each. The leaders in assists were close between Stanford's Kami Miner and Arizona State's Shannon Shields. Miner ended with 30 while Shields ended with 28. The leader in digs was Stanford's Elena Oglivie, with 16, while Arizona State's Marta Levinska and Mary Shroll each had 12 digs of their own.

Now it's time for the results of each set. The first set ended at 25-16 in favor of Arizona State. Stanford worked hard for their redemption but fell short yet again when the second set ended at 25-21 in favor of Arizona State. Going into the third set Arizona State was up 2 sets to Stanford's none so Stanford tried hard. The third set would later end at 25-14 in favor of Arizona State and giving them a 3-0 sweep over a top 5 ranked team there in Arizona. Arizona State is only the third team to beat Stanford so far this season, the others being Florida followed by Nebraska both happening earlier in the season.

By the end of the set, Arizona State had 53 points to Stanford's 44, 41 kills to Stanford's 34, 6 aces to Stanford's 3, 39 assists to Stanford's 32, and 50 digs to Stanford's 47. The only one where Stanford had more was in blocks where they had 7 and Arizona State had 6.
