Welcome back! This blog will cover the game between UCLA and Washington State that took place in Pullman, Washington. The game happened at 7pm Pacific Time at Washington State's Bohler Gym. Going into the game, UCLA had a record of 15-10 after losing to Arizona State then beating Arizona while Washington State had a record of 19-7 after losing to Stanford then beating UC Berkeley. After both teams coming off of one loss then one win, which team will have two wins in a row? Let's find out.
As for the stats, let's start with kills. The leader in Kills goes to Washington State's Pia Timmer, with 22, while UCLA's Iman Ndiaye was right behind with 21 followed shortly by Ndiaye's teammate, Anna Dodson with 17. The leader in Aces goes to UCLA's Cheridyn Leverette, with 4, while Julia Norville led Washington State with 3. The next highest number of aces goes to UCLA's Audrey Pak and Peyton Dueck, each with 2. The leader in Blocks goes to UCLA's Desiree Becker, with 7, followed by Washington State's Magda Jehlarova, with 6. The next highest number of blocks is 5 shared between UCLA's Anna Dodson and Washington State's Katy Ryan and another tie between UCLA's Audrey Pak and Washington State's Lana Radakovic, each with 4. The leader in Assists goes to UCLA's Audrey Pak, with 61, while Washington State was led by Argentina Ung, with 47. The leader in Digs goes to Peyton Dueck, with 20, while Argentina Ung leads Washington State with 16. Not too far behind Ung is Washington State's Karly Basham with 15.
Now to see how the score of each set ended. The first set ended at 25-20 in favor of UCLA. The second set ended much closer at 26-24 in favor of Washington State. The third set ended at 25-18 in favor of UCLA, and was the biggest gap either team had at the end of a set. Going into the fourth set UCLA wanted to finish it in four sets and have an upset against the #9 team but their dreams would just barely fall short as the set ended at 27-25 in favor of Washington State and cause a fifth set. The fifth set would end just as close as the second and fourth sets. This last one would end at 17-15 in favor of UCLA and giving them the upset they were trying to accomplish in the fourth set. At the end of the game, UCLA led in almost all of the categories with 100 points to Washington State's 79, 74 kills to Washington State's 61, 13 aces to Washington State's 5, 68 assists to Washington State's 54, and 64 digs to Washington State's 59. The only one where UCLA did not lead was in blocks because it was a tie with each team getting 13 during the game.
