Minnesota vs Creighton 12-2-2023 WVB Round 2

It's time for Round 2 of the 2023 NCAA Women's Indoor Volleyball National Championships. Round 2 will cover the game between Creighton and Minnesota. This game took place in Omaha, Nebraska at the D.J. Sokol Arena at 6:30pm Central Time on Saturday, December 2nd. Going into the game, Creighton was sitting at 28-4 after just beating Colgate in a 3-0 sweep in Round 1. For Minnesota, they went into the game 16-12 after beating Utah State in a 3-0 sweep for their Round 1. Now let's see how the two teams played in their Round 2 game.
The game leader in Kills goes to Creighton's Norah Sis, with 16, followed shortly by Ava Martin, with 15, and Ellie Bichelmeyer, with 12. Minnesota's leaders were Taylor Landfair, with 12, McKenna Wucherer, with 11, and Melani Shaffmaster, with 5. the leader in Aces goes to Creighton's Kiara Reinhardt with 2, while her teammates Ava Martin and Sydney Breissinger, along with Minnesota's Kylie Murr, Elise McGhie, and Julia Hanson all had 1 ace each. The leader in Blocks goes to Minnesota's Phoebe Awoleye, with 6, Arica Davis, with 5, and Lydia Grote, with 4. The leaders for Creighton were Kainaa Schmidt, with 4, and Ellie Bichelmeyer along with Kiara Reinhardt, each with 3. The leader in Assists goes to Creighton's Kendra Wait, with 44, while Minnesota was led by Melani Shaffmaster, with 26. The leader in Digs goes to Creighton's Kendra Wait, with 17, followed shortly by Minnesota's Kylie Murr, with 16.
Now to see how each set of the game would end. With both winning their first round games, they both wanted to win especially since they know that if they lose their season is over. The first set ended decently close at 25-21 in favor of Creighton. The second set had a bit bigger of a gap ending at 25-20 in favor of Creighton yet again. Going into the third set, Minnesota was determined to win this one. With Creighton only one set away from moving on, they wanted to win this third set but Minnesota didn't want to end their season this way. With both teams working so hard, the third set would end with a score of 29-27 in favor of Creighton and ending the game at 3 sets for Creighton and no sets for Minnesota. When the game ended, Creighton led in points, 67-50, Kills, 56-36, Aces, 4-3, and Assists, 55-35, while Minnesota led in Blocks, 11-7, and Digs, 55-53. Creighton now moves on to the next round while Minnesota ends their 2023 season. Creighton's next game would be against Louisville but Louisville would go on to win 3-2 against Creighton and end their season not long after this game.
This game had an attendance of 2,568 which was the third highest attendance count in the history of this arena. That concludes Round 2 of the 2023 NCAA Women's Indoor Volleyball Season. Stay tuned and until next time, Miller out
