2025 NCAA BVB Selection Show
Dear Readers~
In my last blog I talked about the 8 teams that made it to the national championships by winning their conference and those teams were North Florida, Long Beach State, Texas, Florida Atlantic, University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC), Stanford, Boise State, and LMU. Let's see what a selection show is. For NCAA Beach Volleyball a selection show is where the NCAA selection committee reveals the bracket for the specific sport, in this case beach volleyball. With 8 teams already chosen, they chose who the final 8 would be along with how they would be ranked and what the bracket would look like. For NCAA basketball you know it better as March Madness.
Let's look more into the confirmed 8 teams before we see who the final 8 will be. Up first is the ASUN (Atlantic SUN) conference with their champion of North Florida coached by Doug Wright and a season record of 26-10 along with a win streak of 2. As for the Big West that was won by Long Beach State who is coached by Mike Campbell with a record of 27-11 and a win streak of 4. Next is Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) that was won by Texas who is coached by the legendary beach volleyball coach, Stein Metzger with a record of 27-9 along with a win streak of 5. Next is Conference USA (CUSA) that was won by Florida Atlantic who is coached by Steve Grotowski with a record of 21-14 and a win streak of 7. Next is the Ohio Valley Conference that was won by University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC) who is coached by Darin Van Horn (who is also the assistant indoor coach) with a record of 26-5 along with a win streak of 11. Next is the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), or as some may know it Pac-12, that was won by Stanford who is coached by Andrew Fuller (who is married to AVP player Lauren Fendrick) with a record of 28-8 and a win streak of 5. Next is the Southland Conference that was won by Boise State who is coached by Allison Voigt with a record of 23-11 and a win streak of 2. The last conference champion comes from the West Coast Conference and was Loyola Marymount University (LMU) who is coached by former AVP player John Mayer with a record of 35-6 and a win streak of 7. There is technically one more conference champion and that goes to Georgia State. According to the NCAA, Georgia State beat the University of North Carolina Wilmington 3-1 to become the Sun Belt Conference champions and move on to the national finals. Georgia State is coached by Beth Van Fleet with a record of 22-16 and a win streak of 5. The reason I mention this is because the CCSA doesn't get an automatic bid like other conferences do so even though Texas won their conference, the only way they could go to the national finals is if the NCAA chooses them, which brings us to that part of the blog.
Now that we know North Florida, Florida Atlantic, UTC, Long Beach State, Stanford, Boise State, and LMU are all confirmed to play in the national finals along with Georgia State but not Texas, let's see who the 8 chosen teams are. To no surprise, Texas was chosen along with others like Florida State, University of Southern California (USC), Louisiana State University (LSU), Cal Poly, University of California Berkeley, and Texas Christian University (TCU). That makes up the 16 teams that will be competing in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the national championship.
