AVP Huntington Beach 2025: Semifinals and Finals

 Dear Readers~

Welcome to today's blog covering the semifinals and finals of the 2025 AVP Huntington Beach Open that took place in Huntington Beach, California. In my first blog of the season, I covered the women's teams of Kelly Cheng paired with Molly Shaw and Melissa Humana-Paredes paired with Brandi Wilkerson. Last week I covered the men's teams of Cerutti Alison paired with Alvaro Filho and Billy Allen paired with Taylor Crabb. In today's blog we'll see who made it to the end of the bracket and who won the tournament. Out of the four pairs I've talked about, only Alison and Filho were the only pair who didn't make the semifinals, which is sad since they fell short by only one game.

The first women's semifinal had #4 Kelly Cheng and Molly Shaw playing against #1 Taryn (Kloth) Brasher and Kristen Nuss. The first set ended 21-15 while the second set ended 21-17, both in favor of Brasher and Nuss, moving them on to the finals.

The second women's semifinal had #2 Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandi Wilkerson playing against #3 Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft. The first set ended 21-15 in favor of Cannon and Kraft while the second set ended 21-19 in favor of Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson, causing a third set. The third set ended 15-12 in favor of Cannon and Kraft, moving them on to the finals against Nuss and Brasher.

The first men's semifinal had #1 Andy Benesh and Miles Partain against #12 Logan Webber and Hegan Smith. The first set ended 21-13 while the second set ended 21-12, both in favor of Benesh and Partain and moving them on to the finals.

The second men's semifinal had #3 Billy Allen and Taylor Crabb against #2 Chase Budinger and Miles Evans. The first set ended 26-24 in favor of Allen and Crabb while the second set ended 21-19 in favor of Budinger and Evans, causing a third set. The third set ended 15-13 in favor of Budinger and Evans giving them the victory and onto the finals against Partain and Benesh.

The women's final has #1 Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss against #3 Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft. The first set ended 21-17 in favor of Nuss and Brasher while the second set ended 23-21 in favor of Cannon and Kraft, causing a third set. The third set ended 15-9 in favor of Nuss and Brasher, making them the champions of the first AVP tournament of the 2025 season there in Huntington Beach.

The men's final has #1 Andy Benesh and Miles Partain taking on #2 Chase Budinger and Miles Evans. These two teams represented Team USA in beach volleyball at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Benesh and Partain received a fifth-place tie while Budinger and Evans tied for ninth. For these finals, both sets ended 21-14 and both in favor of Benesh and Partain, making them the champions of the first AVP tournament of the 2025 season in Huntington Beach.

Both of these teams that won also represented Team USA in Paris in 2024 if their names sound familiar. That concludes the first tournament of the 2025 season in Huntington Beach, California. Stay tuned for next week when I cover the women's bracket from the 2025 AVP stop in Palm Beach, Florida. If there's a certain pair from an AVP stop you'd like to see be covered, let me know and until next time, Miller out
