AVP 2025: Miami Tournament

Dear Readers~

Welcome to city #4 of the 2025 AVP (Association of Volleyball Professional) season that took place in Miami, Florida at the Wayfair Arena. This is the third stop of the League after Palm Beach, Florida and San Diego, California. With the AVP League only lasting two days (June 13th and 14th) and having four games each day, there were no technical finals or semifinals. Each gender got two games on each day. I have decided to start combining both genders so that means that ech stop/city will only get one blog. If you like the previous way of splitting it up by gender or having them combined, let me know.

Let's start by explaining the difference between the AVP in previous years compared to the League they've started with this season. With it being so new, I'm still learning more with each stop, like others. In previous AVP seasons, there would be a double elimination bracket for each gender, this year, the Manhattan Beach tournament (which will happen here very shortly) is the only one to have this, as of now anyways. The league will take place at 8 cities this season, along with the League Championships, totaling 9 cities. There are 8 pairs for each gender, representing each city with four of the pairs playing at each stop for each gender. Each stop is two days and includes four games on each day, two for men and two for women. A very noticeable way the League is different is that the sets end at 15, instead of the previous 21, for the first two sets while what remains the same is that the third set ends at 15 along with a lead of two points or more needed once 15 (or more) points is reached. Now let's see how the women did followed by the men at the third League stop of the 2025 season did in Miami, Florida.

With each gender having four teams, four games were played for each gender, two on day one and two on day two. The four teams involved in this city are the Palm Beach Passion, New York Nitro, Miami Mayhem, and Brooklyn Blaze. Let's get into the women's games of the stop here in Miami's Wayfair Arena (which is technically in the town of Medley, Florida and was once known as the Miami Kaseya Cener if that name sounds familiar).

The first day had the Palm Beach Passion taking on the New York Nitro. Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson represented the Passion while Megan Rice and Corine Quiggle played for the Nitro. The first set ended 15-6 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of Melissa and Brandie. Next was the Brooklyn Blaze taking on the Miami Mayhem. Molly Shaw and Kelly Chang played for the Mayhem while Julia Donlin and Lexy Denaburg played for the Blaze. The first set ended 18-16 in favor of the Blaze while the second set ended 15-8 in favor of the Mayhem, causing a third set. That third set ended 15-10 in favor of the Blaze and giving them the 2-1 victory.

The second day started with the Nitro taking on the Blaze. The first set ended 15-12 in favor of the Nitro while the second set ended 15-13 in favor of the Blaze and causing a third set. The third set ended 15-13 as well but in favor of the Nitro and giving Rice and Quiggle a 2-1 victory over Donlin and Denaburg. The final women's game of the weekend was the Passion against the Mayhem. The first set ended 20-18 (don't forget about that rule of needing a lead of 2 points or more) in favor of Miami while the second set ended 15-11 in favor of the Passion and causing a third set. The third set ended 15-10 in favor of the Passion and giving Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes a 2-1 lead over Shaw and Chang.

Now we'll see how the men did. Up first was the Passion against the Nitro followed by the Mayhem against the Blaze for the first day. The Passion had Trevor Crabb and Phil Dalhausser  while the Nitro had the Taylors, made up of Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander. The first set ended 15-13 while the second set ended 15-10, both in favor of the Passion. The second game had James Shaw and Chaim Schalk for the Mayhem taking on Seain Cook and Brian Miller of the Blaze. The first set ended 21-19 in favor of the Blaze while the second set ended 15-8 in favor of the Mayhem and causing a third set. The third set ended 15-12 in favor of the Mayhem and giving them a 2-1 win over the Blaze.

For the second day, they had the Nitro against the Blaze followed by the Passion against the Mayhem. The Blaze had Cook an Miller taking on Crabb and Sander of the Nitro. The first set ended 15-11 in favor of the Nitro while the second set ended 15-12 in favor of the Nitro and causing a third set. The third set ended 15-11 and in favor of the Nitro, giving them a 2-1 lead over the Blaze for the victory. The last game of the weekend was between Dalhausser and Crabb of the Passion against Shaw and Schalk of the Mayhem. The first set ended 15-13 along with the second set but the first set went to the Mayhem while the second set went to the Passion and caused a third set. The third set ended at 15-10 in favor of the Passion and giving them a 2-1 victory over the Mayhem.

Here is the schedule that the AVP put up on their Instagram for the big event. As you can see, each team had one game on each day

After the time in Miami, the LA Launch (who didn't play in Miami) is the only undefeated team of the season as of the conclusion of the weekend in Miami

This concludes both the women's and men's games in Miami at the Wayfair Arena. Next city is East Hampton, New York so stay tuned for that next time. If there's a certain sport or team, you'd like covered, let me know. If you prefer to have the tournaments split by gender or if you like them combined, also let me know. Here shortly I will be going to California for the AVP stop that will take place in Manhattan Beach in southern California, so stay tuned for those special ones later in the year and until next time, Miller out
