AVP San Diego 2025: Men's Tournament
Dear Readers~
Welcome to the men's side of the 2025 AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) San Diego stop that took place on June 6th and 7th in San Diego, California at San Diego State University's Viejas Arena. With the league not having any technical finals or semifinals (due to only having two games for each gender each day, I'll be covering all four of the men's games in this blog after covering all four of the women's games in last week's blog, so be sure to look into that if you're curious.
Let's start by explaining the difference between the AVP in previous years compared to the League they've started with this season. With it being so new, I'm still learning more with each stop, like others. In previous AVP seasons, there would be a double elimination bracket for each gender, this year, the Manhattan Beach tournament in August is the only one to have this, as of now anyways. The league will take place at 8 cities this season, along with the League Championships, totaling 9 cities. There are 8 pairs for each gender, representing each city with four of the pairs playing at each stop for each gender. Each stop is two days and includes four games on each day, two for men and two for women. A very noticeable way the League is different is that the sets end at 15, instead of the previous 21, for the first two sets while what remains the same is that the third set ends at 15 along with a lead of two points or more needed once 15 (or more) points is reached. Now let's see how the men did at the second League stop of the 2025 season did in San Diego.
The first day had the Dallas Dream and LA Launch as the first men's team. The Dallas Dream is made up of Miles Partain and Andy Benesh while the LA Launch is made up of Hagen Smith and Logan Webber. The first set ended 15-10 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of LA. The second men's game had the San Diego Smash taking on the Austin Aces. The San Diego Smash is made up of Chase Budinger and Miles Evans while the Austin Aces is made up of Avery Drost and Wyatt Harrison. The first set ended 15-12 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of San Diego.
The second day had the Dallas Dream taking on the Austin Aces. The first set ended 18-16 in favor of Austin while the second set ended 15-10 in favor of Dallas, and causing a third set. The third set ended 15-9 in favor of Dallas and giving them the 2-1 victory over Austin. The second men's game and the last game in San Diego, had the San Diego Smash taking on the LA Launch. The first set ended 15-13 in favor of San Diego while the second set ended 16-14 in favor of LA, and causing a third set. The third set ended 18-16 in favor of LA.
This concludes the second stop of the 2025 AVP League that took place in San Diego, California. Miami, Florida is the next stop for the AVP League, so stay tuned for that as the women's bracket of that stop will be out next week. If there's a certain sport or match up you'd like to read about, let me know and until next time, Miller out
