AVP 2025: Dallas Tournament

Dear Readers~

Welcome to week #8 of the 2025 AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) League season. This is also the final week before the League Championships that took place on Oak Street Beach in Chicago over Labor Day Weekend. This final week in Dallas took place at the Comerica Center on August 8th and 9th. The four teams to play in this final weekend were the Brooklyn Blaze, Miami Mayhem, LA Launch, and of course, the Dallas Dream. This final week will combine both the men's and women's games so if you've grown to like any of the athletes or any of those four teams over the summer, stay tuned as we get into the results from the final league event before the championships took place.

For those who don't know, the league is a little different than the previous AVP seasons. The biggest differences include the scoring and the number of venues/events they have this season. The way the scoring goes is that each set goes to 15 unless the two teams get to 15 and neither has a lead of two points or more meanwhile the previous years had the first two sets play to 21 and only the third set went to 15 but they did still have the lead of two points or more in order to win a set as a rule. With each team playing one game on one day and one game on the following day, that means that only 8 games are played overall between the two days and between both genders.

We will start with the women's results. For the first day, it started with the Dallas Dream taking on the Brooklyn Blaze followed by the Miami Mayhem taking on the LA Launch. The first game had Hailey Harward and Kylie Deberg, of Dallas, taking on Lexy Denaburg and Julia Donlin, of Brooklyn. The first set ended 15-8 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of Dallas and giving Harward and Deberg a 2-0 win over Denaburg and Donlin. For the second women's game it was Molly Shaw and Kelly Cheng, of Miami, against Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft, of LA. Both sets ended 15-12 and both in favor of Shaw and Cheng.

The second day had Miami taking on Dallas followed by LA taking on Brooklyn. The first game had Harward and Deberg taking on Shaw and Cheng. The first set ended 15-11 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of Cheng and Shaw, giving them the 2-0 win over Harward and Deberg. The second game had Cannon and Kraft taking on Denaburg and Donlin. The first set ended 15-12 while the second set ended 15-13, both in favor of Cannon and Kraft, giving them the 2-0 win over Denaburg and Donlin.

Next up we have the men's games. For the first day we have Dallas taking on Brooklyn followed by Miami taking on LA. The first game had Miles Partain and Andy Benesh, of Dallas, taking on Seain Cook and Theo Brunner, of Brooklyn. The first set ended 15-8 while the second set ended 15-12, both in favor of Benesh and Partain, giving them the 2-0 victory. Up next was Chaim Schalk and James Shaw, of Miami, taking on Hagen Smith and Logan Webber, of LA. Both sets ended 15-12 in favor of Shaw and Schalk, giving them the 2-0 win over Smith and Webber.

For the second day, it started with Shaw and Schalk taking on Benesh and Partain. The first set ended 15-13 and the second set ended 15-8, both in favor of Benesh and Partain, giving them a 2-0 win over Shaw and Schalk. The final game of the night is Smith and Webber against Cook and Brunner. The first set ended 15-12 while the second set ended 15-11, both in favor of Smith and Webber, giving them a 2-0 victory over Cook and Brunner.

This concludes the final league event of the 2025 season before the championships. Next week I start covering the 2025 AVP Manhattan Beach Open that happened back in August that I was able to attend in person. After that will be the League championships in Chicago to conclude the 2025 AVP season. Here soon I will be doing two volleyball blogs a week now that the NCAA Division I indoor season has started. One will be the rest of the AVP season while the other will start the NCAA indoor season. I will do this until my coverage of the AVP championships in Chicago are concluded, so I hope you enjoy that. Stay tuned for the upcoming special blogs about Manhattan Beach here shortly. If there are any certain college teams you'd like covered this fall (or in the spring if you prefer beach or the men's indoor program), let me know and until next time, Miller out
