#5 Pittsburg @ #13 Penn State 9-17-2025 WVB

Dear Readers~

Welcome to another NCAA Division 1 indoor volleyball game. In today's game we have #5 Pittsburg taking on #13 Penn State. For those who don't know, Penn State actually won the national championships last year, so they're working hard to do the same this year. Today's game took place on September 17th at State College, Pennsylvania at Rec Hall, where Penn State plays. Going into the game, Pittsburg is sitting at 7 wins in a row while Penn State is sitting at 2 wins in a row. Pittsburg's last loss was to Florida towards the end of August but will things change during today's game? Let's get started and find out.

For those who have seen my coverage of the NCAA beach games back in the spring, I explained the difference between the beach and indoor games. For those who don't know, the way indoor works is you have to win 3 sets, whether it be all 3, or 3 of the 4/5 sets that are played. As for the scoring, for the beach, it's played first to 21 while indoor is played first to 25 and both require a lead of two points or more for the set to conclude. If a fifth set is needed, the teams play first to 15 instead of 25 but the lead of two points or more is still enforced. Unlike the beach game, you can switch players in and out (the NCAA only gives you 15 per set so you have to use them wisely with 6 players on the court), like in basketball for example, but with beach you can't switch them out and you only get one timeout for each set per team as to where NCAA indoor gets two timeouts per set for each team since they generally play longer sets. Enough about the beach game, let's get into this indoor game from Pennsylvania.

The first set ended very close at 25-23, in favor of Pittsburg, while the second set ended 25-17, also in favor of Pittsburg, and giving them only one set to go. The third set would end at 25-23 as well, but this time in favor of Penn State, and leading to a fourth set. The fourth set would end at 25-17, in favor of Pittsburg and giving them the 3-1 finish they needed to win the game and also give them thier 8th win in a row and give Penn State their 4th loss of the season.

Now let's see how the stats for the game turned out. We'll be covering 5 different stats that include kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. Up first we have kills and they were led by Pittsburg's Olivia Babcock and Penn State's Kennedy Martin, each with 16. The second highest goes to Pittsburg's Dadmar Mourits, with 13, and Penn State's Emmi Sellman, with 11. The leader in aces goes to Pittsburg's Olivia Babcock with 3. Pittsburg's Brooke Mosher and Sophie Gregoire, along with Penn State's Gillian Grimes, Addie Lyon, and Kennedy Martin all have one ace each. The leader in blocks goes to Pittsburg's Ryla Jones, with 9, followed by Penn State's Maggie Mendelson, with 8, and Pittsburg's Dagmar Mourits and Kelly Bre, each with 5. The leader in assists goes to Pittsburg's Brooke Mosher, with 39, followed by Penn State's Addie Lyon, with 35. Lastly, we have digs. The leaders are Pittsburg's Olivia Babcock and Penn State's Gillian Grimes, each with 13, and Pittsburg's Emery Dupes and Dagmar Mourits, each with 9.

With this game concluded, let's see who each team will play next. Up next for Pittsburg is Miami on Friday, October 10th at the Knight sports Complex in Coral Gables, Florida at 7pm Eastern Time while Penn State's next game will also be on Friday, October 10th as they host Wisconsin at Rec Hall at 7pm Eastern Time.

This concludes the latest game of the 2025 Division 1 NCAA indoor women's volleyball. Despite only being a few hours apart by road, this is the only time this season the two will play each other. Do you think they'll play each other in the national championship bracket, or will we have to wait for the 2026 season to watch them play each other again? Stay tuned for the next game I'll be covering, which is Penn State hosting UCLA, and if there's a certain team or match up, you'd like to watch, let me know and until next time, Miller out
