#1 Nebraska @ #11 Wisconsin 10-31-2025 WVB
Dear Readers~
Welcome to another game for the 2025 NCAA Division 1 Indoor Volleyball season. Today's game brings us back to one of the very first teams I covered this season, Nebraska, along with a team I haven't covered this season (not sure how that happened), Wisconsin. This week Nebraska is ranked #1, like they've been all season, while Wisconsin is ranked #11. The game took place on Friday, October 31st at the UW Field House in Madison (the capital of Wisconsin). Going into the game, Wisconsin was 15-3 with a win streak of two and only losing to Texas in late August, Penn State in early October, and USC in mid-October. Nebraska has an impressive record of 20-0 for the 2025 season. Nebraska is one of only two teams who are currently undefeated for the season (don't forget Arizona State is 8-0 at home but 7-1 away and 2-1 neutral, making them 17-2 overall and ranked #6) going into this week (Week of October 27th) with the other being Texas (sitting at 18-0, which is still impressive none the less). What makes Nebraska's season even more impressive is they have won every game 3-0 since September 16th, when they won 3-2 against Creighton in Omaha. Can they keep their undefeated season alive and extend their 33 set (11 game) win streak or will Wisconsin hand Nebraska their first loss of the 2025 season or end their impressive 33 set winning streak that started on September 20th when they won 3-0 against Arizona at home in Lincoln? Let's get into today's game to find out since this is the only time during the regular season these two will end up playing each other.
For those who have seen my coverage of the NCAA beach games back in the spring and my previous indoor games covering this 2025 season, I have been explaining the difference between the beach and indoor games. For those who don't know, the way indoor works is you have to win 3 sets, whether it be all 3 (if you're Nebraska lately), or 3 of the 4/5 sets that are played (more so if you're a school like Wisconsin). As for the scoring, the beach game is played first to 21 while indoor is played first to 25 and both require a lead of two points or more for the set to conclude. If a fifth set for indoor or a third set for the beach is needed, the teams play first to 15 instead of 25 but the lead of two points or more is still enforced. Unlike the beach game, you can switch players in and out (the NCAA only gives you 15 per set so you have to use them wisely with 6 players on the court), like in basketball for example, but with beach you can't switch them out and you only get one timeout for each set per team as to where NCAA indoor gets two timeouts per set for each team since they generally play longer sets. Enough about the beach game, let's get into this indoor game from the Wisconsin capital of Madison.
The first set ended 25-22 in favor of Nebraska. The second set would end with a little bit of a bigger gap at 25-19, also in favor of Nebraska. This means that going into the third set, Nebraska is only one set away from a win. The third set ended at 25-13, the largest gap in the score during the whole night. The set would end in favor of Nebraska and give them the 3-0 finish they needed for the win. Not only is Nebraska still undefeated this season but they also made it through all of October without losing a single set, not just game but set, out of all 9 games they played during the month. They have also gone 12 straight games where they have won each game in only 3 sets and have just won their 21st game of the 2025 season. As for Wisconsin, this is only the third game this season the team has lost 0-3 (the other two being to Texas in late August and Penn State in early October. Keep in mind, Wisconsin has won 11 of their games 3-0 (out of the 16 games they've won this season) so the Wisconsin team is still no laughing matter.
Now that we know how the game ended, let's see who some of the top players for each of the 5 stats were. The five stats include kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. The leaders for kills goes to Nebraska's Harper Murray, with 15, followed by Wisconsin's Mimi Colyer, with 14, and lastly Nebraska's Andi Jackson, with 12. The leader in aces goes to Wisconsin's Natalie Wardlow, with 4, who also has the only aces for Wisconsin. For Nebraska, there's Harper Murray, with 2, and Laney Choboy, with 1. The leaders in blocks goes to Nebraska's Rebekah Allick, with 6, and Bergen Reilly and Harper Murray, each with 4. The leaders for Wisconsin include Alicia Andrew, with 3, Addy Horner, with 2, and Mimi Colyer, with 1. The leader in assists goes to Nebraska's Bergen Reilly, with 38, while Wisconsin was led by Addy Horner, with 33. The leader in digs goes to Nebraska's Teraya Sigler, with 14, followed by Nebraska's Laney Choboy and Wisconsin's Kristen Simon, each with 10 of their own. For the most mentioned athlete, it's actually a 3-way tie for Nebraska between Harper Murray, Bergen Reilly, and Laney Choboy while the leader for Wisconsin is Alicia Andrew and all four of these athletes showed up in three of the five listed stats. For Nebraska, Outside Hitter Harper Murray had 15 kills, 2 aces, and 4 blocks, setter Bergen Reilly had 4 blocks, 38 assists, and 8 digs, and libero Laney Choboy had 1 ace, 3 assists, and 10 digs. As for Wisconsin's Alicia Andrew, she had 5 kills, 3 blocks, and 1 assist.
With today's game completed, let's see who each team will play next. Wisconsin plays Illinois on Saturday, November 15th at 8pm central time as they head to Illinois to play in Huff Hall in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois (south of I-74 and east of I-57 against an unranked Illinois. Nebraska will be going to Los Angeles to play #17 USC (University of Southern California) at the Galen Center (south of I-10 and next to I-110 on the west side, northeast of the LA Memorial Coliseum that will host a few of the 2028 Olympic events) at 2pm central time.
