#14 Miami @ #5 Stanford 10-19-2025 WVB
Dear Readers~
Welcome to the latest game of the 2025 season to be covered. Today's game is #5 Stanford hosting #14 Miami. Today's game took place in Stanford, California at Stanford's Maples Pavilion in the Bay area, just west of San Jose and south of San Francisco, on Sunday, October 19th. Going into the game, Stanford is 15-3 while Miami is 15-3 as well. Stanford has a win streak of 3 in a row while Miami has a losing streak of 2 in a row. Will Miami give Stanford its 4th loss of the season or will Stanford give Miami their 4th loss of the season? Let's get into this game in Stanford to see what happens.
For those who have seen my coverage of the NCAA beach games back in the spring and my previous indoor games this fall, I explained the difference between the beach and indoor games. For those who don't know, the way indoor works is you have to win 3 sets, whether it be all 3, or 3 of the 4/5 sets that are played. As for the scoring, for the beach, it's played first to 21 while indoor is played first to 25 and both require a lead of two points or more for the set to conclude. If a fifth set is needed, the teams play first to 15 instead of 25 but the lead of two points or more is still enforced. Unlike the beach game, you can switch players in and out (the NCAA only gives you 15 per set so you have to use them wisely with 6 players on the court), like in basketball for example, but with beach you can't switch them out and you only get one timeout for each set per team as to where NCAA indoor gets two timeouts per set for each team since they generally play longer sets. Enough about the beach game, let's get into this indoor game from the Bay area suburb of Stanford.
The first set ended pretty close at 25-23 in favor of Stanford an giving them a 1-0 lead over Miami. The second set ended just as close at 27-25, in favor of Miami and now making it 1-1. The third set ended at 26-24 and in favor of Stanford, making it 2-1 and giving Stanford only one more set to win in order to win the game. The fourth set ended with the biggest gap of any set. This set ended at 25-16 and in favor of Stanford. This gives Stanford the 3-1 victory they needed to beat Miami. Stanford now sits at 16-3 and a 4-game win streak while Miami sits at 15-4 with a three-game losing streak. If you're curious who Miami lost to, it was against #4 Pitt, #10 SMU, and an unranked Berkeley.
Let's see who the game leaders were out of our five recorded stats. These stats include kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. With so many points being scored, there's no surprise these numbers are so high. The leader for kills goes to Miami's Flormarie Heredia Colon, with 20, while Stanford's Elia Rubin and Julia Blyashov are the next highest with 17and 15 kills of their own. The leader in aces is a tie between Miami's Ariana Rodriguez and Stanford's Koko Kirsch, with 3 aces for each athlete. The leader in blocks goes to Stanford's Ericka Sayer, with 10, while her teammate Jordyn Harvey is second with 8. The leader for Miami was Dalia Wilson, with 5. The leader for assists goes to Miami's Ariana Rodriguez again, but this time with 50 assists, while Stanford was led by Logan Parks, with 43, which is still impressive none the less. The leader in digs goes to Miami's Naylani Feliciano, with 18, while Stanford's Spencer Etzler wasn't far behind with 17 of her own. The athletes that showed up the most out of these 5 categories is Stanford's Outside Hitter Elia Rubin, who showed up in 4 out of the 5 stats mentioned. She got 17 kills, 1 ace, 2 assists, and 9 digs along with Opposite Jordan Harvey with 11 kills, 1 ace, 8 blocks, and 6 digs. As for which athletes showed up the most for Miami, it would be Middle Blocker Dalia Wilson with 10 kills, 1 ace, and 5 blocks and Outside Hitter Flormarie Heredia Colon with 20 kills, 2 aces, and 10 digs.
With today's game completed in Stanford, let's see who each team will play next. For Miami, their next game is against Florida State as they travel to their state capital of Tallahassee on Saturday, November 8th for their 1pm Eastern Time game. Stanford's next game will be on Saturday, November 8th as well as they host Duke at Maples Pavilion at 7pm Pacific Time.
